Intermittent Catheters are One-Time Use Only Catheters that are used for Intermittent Catheterization, which is, every time you want to drain your bladder, you use a new Intermittent Catheter, therefore, one may use 4 to 6 Catheters in the course of 24 Hours. Also, most patients with Practice and over Time, learn to Self-Catheterize and are able to use Intermittent Catheter all by themselves.

Foley Catheters, on the Other Hand, stay inside the Body Longer, and therefore are called Indwelling Catheters because depending on the Material, the Foley Catheter is made of, Foley Catheters can be placed inside the body from 30 to 90 Days Even.  However, Foley Catheters Absolutely Need Skilled Care for Insertion and Removal. Silicone Foley Catheters are preferred over Latex Foley Catheters because Silicone is an Inert Material that does not react with the Body and Body Fluids, therefore it can Safely Stay Longer inside the body. Most Silicone Catheter Brands are going to be different from each other and therefore it is essential to read the Packaging. But All things said and done, A Regular Foley Catheter should be changed Every 30 Days compared to a Silicone catheter that can be changed Every 60 to 90 Days.

Silicone Catheters are Softer compared to other Materials and therefore, cause hardly any Trauma or No Trauma at all during Insertion. We offer Both Lubricated and Non-Lubricated Silicone Foley Catheters in 16 French, 18 French, 20 French, 22 French and 24 French Sizes. For those, who prefer to use Lubricating Jelly with Insertion, We carry all major brands of Lubricating Jelly used with Catheters.

Two- Way Foley Catheters -  A Lot Many of the Foley Catheters are 2-Way Type because they have 2 Connectors at the Urethra End. One connector is for Urine Drainage and the Other Non-Return Connector is simply to Inflate the Retention Balloon. At the Urethra End, One Connector works as a drainage port and helps in draining urine, this connector end is always attached to a Leg Bag or a Drainage bag. MedOnTheGo.com offers a Large Selection of Disposable Leg Bags, Reusable Leg Bags, and Drainage Bags. The Other connector is only a balloon inflation valve that is used to inflate or deflate the retention balloon. Once Inflated, Retention balloon prevents the catheter from falling out of the bladder. And of course, when it is time for the Silicone Catheter to be replaced, the Caregiver deflates the Balloon to draw the catheter out. Every Catheter Brand is different and therefore Manufacturer Instructions must be read and followed accordingly. That being said, Silicone Foley Catheters can be replaced Every 60 to 90 Days.
