Saline for Contact Lens Care
What is the difference between Saline and 0.9% Sodium Chloride- What is Safe for your Prose and Scleral Contact Lens?
First of all, Let me explain that 0.9% Sodium Chloride and Saline Solution are one and the Same thing, so no worries there.
Also widely used for Inhalation Therapy or Asthma Therapy, A lot many of our Customers use Saline for taking care of their Prose and Scleral Contact Lenses, I am guessing that you do too.
For Saline to be used on Contact Lenses, it must be Preservative Free. Addipak Saline Vials, one of the Most well known brands is Preservative Free but so are Modudose and Portex Brands. All 3 of these brands are 0.9% Sodium Chloride, Unbuffered and Without Preservatives. All of them are Exactly the same and Good to use with your Scleral and Prose Lenses.
What is the Difference between Buffered Saline and Non-Buffered Saline?
Buffered Saline closely matches the pH of Human Tears and therefore is more comfortable to use, especially for those who have Dry eyes or Sensitive Eyes. Whereas Non-Buffered Saline is just Simple Saline without any Additives.
The Ingredients for Non-Buffered Saline are Purified Water and Sodium Chloride.
The Ingredients for Buffered Saline are Purified Water, Sodium Chloride, Boric Acid and Sodium Borate.
Addipak, Modudose and Prose Brand Saline Vials are All Non-Buffered Salines.
One Major Advantage with the Non-Buffered Salines is that they All come in Single Use Unit Dose Vials. So you open a vial, use it and discard the rest. Not only are these economical, but because you use a Fresh Vial every time, there is no chance of the Saline ever getting contaminated. Fresh Saline is Good for the Eyes and for the Contact Lens. That being said, Let me state that, Both Non-Buffered and Buffered Saline are Safe to use with Contact Lens.
What Size Saline Vials should I Order?
The Good news is that Single use Saline Vials come in a variety of sizes so it all depends on how much Solution you use at one time or in a day. Depending on One Time Usage, you can order
5mL Vials (Most Popular)
