Tuberculin Syringe with Needle

Tuberculin or TB Syringes with Needle are mostly used to administer TB Antigen or any other Antigen medication to patients or to perform a PPD Test. These injections or shots need to be given Intradermally that is within the Skin or between the Layers of the Skin, therefore the needles on the Tuberculin injections are slightly longer than the Insulin Needle Syringes.

The PPD Skin Test or Pure Protein Derivative Test is a method used to diagnose Tuberculosis or TB Infection in patients. This test is commonly used all over the world, helps confirm if someone has had exposure to the Tuberculosis Virus which is a highly infectious disease. Tuberculin syringes are typically used to perform this test also called the Mantoux Test in medical terms.

You might wonder what in the world is Antigen or Antigen Solutions. Well, Antigens are molecules that, when introduced into the body, help induce an immune response in the body, especially the production of antibodies or the disease-fighting White Blood Cells, which is our Body's Natural Defence System. Basically, Antigens are Bad Guys that are introduced into the body, so that the Good Guys in our Bodies wake up and start fighting in defense.

TB or Tuberculin syringes are small in capacity, typically with a Volume of 0.5mL to 1mL. The Needle Thickness or Gauge as it is commonly called can range from 25 Gauge to 30 Gauge. Please do remember that Higher the Gauge, the Thinner the Needle. Also, the Thinner the Needle, the more comfortable the injection is going to be for the patient. So for example, a 27 Gauge Needle will be Thinner than a 25 Gauge Needle and perhaps, more comfortable.  However, that alone should not determine your selection of needle. The next thing would be to determine the Length of the Tuberculin Needle. Since the Antigen solution for the Tuberculin Test needs to be delivered "Intradermally" meaning within the Skin or between the  Skin Layers, the Tuberculin Needles are shorter and range between the Length of 3/8 Inch to a Maximum of 1 Inch.

MedOnTheGo.com sells Tuberculin syringes with Needle as well as Syringe with Safety Needles.

How are Tuberculin Needle Syringes different from Insulin Needle Syringes?

Insulin Syringes are used to give Insulin shots and since insulin needs to be delivered just under the skin, the Insulin Shot is called a "Subcutaneous Injection". Therefore, the needles on Insulin Injections are Short. A lot many patients use Insulin Pen Needles called so because these are as short as the tip of a pen and Ultra-Sharp for comfortable Injection.

Tuberculin Needle Syringes, on the other hand, are used to give/administer TB Tuberculosis Antigen Shots to a patient or to perform a PPD Test, to confirm if a patient has been exposed to the TB virus. Antigen Shot are considered "Intradermal Injection" since the Antigen needs to be delivered between the layers of the skin. Therefore, the needles on Tuberculin Syringes are longer than Insulin Needle Syringes.
